The traverse of the Cuillin Ridge is regarded as one of the only 'Alpine style' routes in the United Kingdom involving rock climbing skills. Although only 7 miles in length, the average traverse is likely to take 15 - 20 hours from sea level at Glenbrittle to the bar of the Sligachan Hotel owing to the difficulty of the terrain and route finding problems, often in mist.
The artist took 2 attempts himself to complete the traverse and the painting, completed in ink, involving many sketching trips was almost as difficult ! This unique large poster print is on high quality 180gsm paper measuring 140cm x 38cm and is signed by the artist in graphite. It has all the names of the Munros and various tops listed in corresponding positions along the lower border, with the title 'The Black Cuillin' in the centre. The print is a faithful reproduction taken from the original ink painting measuring over 1.6m in length, completed very recently.
