Instagram post 2198047139812575797_589340319 We're pulling together climbers' opinions of why quarries are such a great place to climb. So if you're a quarry fanatic, let us know what's good about them in the comments 👇 .

Instagram post 2191553318576607979_589340319 “Without thinking, I headed towards the wall. I was absolutely focussed on that move. I started to climb, without clipping in.” ⚠️ .
Experienced climber Sam, recently took a fall from an auto belay after not clipping in at @tca_thepropstore. The Climbing Academy are bringing this worrying trend to the fore by sharing with us Sam’s story:
.
Sam, who started climbing 15 years ago, had been climbing constantly on auto belay for around an hour the day of her accident. As she started to feel tired and prepared to leave, she saw another climber complete a move that had previously alluded her. .
Having successfully made the move, she slipped on another hold around 15-20 feet off the ground and landed on her back, winded and shaken. She counts herself lucky not to have made it to the top. Similar accidents like these have sometimes ended with fatalities.
.
It could happen to anyone. Sam was not a new climber, she was not an irresponsible person “I am always the one taking care of people, always checking people…so that was a shock. For the people that I have introduced to climbing, they were shocked. If you can do it, it can happen to anyone”.
.
“If you’re with someone, always check each other. Always, always check. You are never silly to check. You can’t be too careful. There’s no such thing". .
Stay vigilant and stay safe!

Instagram post 2187908079865451845_589340319 How can you fuel well to perform well and be healthy? Earlier this year, Mina Leslie-Wujastyk spoke out about her personal struggles with Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) and her article on @ukclimbing sparked a much-needed conversation around health in climbing.
.
Repost @minaclimbing:
.
"I’ve received a lot of compassion, kindness and support which has been amazing but I have also had many climbers reach out having or having had similar problems. There have been lots of questions on how to understand the problem and manage recovery as well how to avoid this issue in the first place. I see a lot of concern in our community for the long term health of climbers and a growing interest in understanding our physiology and our fuelling needs in the context of climbing and training performance.
.
I’ve teamed up with the BMC to organise a non-profit event that aims to raise awareness, provide practical information and generate discussion around the risks and health implications of RED-S in climbing. .
The event will be held from 4-6pm at @awesomewalls_sheffield on the 18th January and will feature guest experts Renee McGregor (@r_mcgregor Specialist Sports and Eating Disorder Dietitian) and Dr Nicky Keay (@nickykfitness Sports Endocrinologist specialising in RED-S) as well as panel and audience discussion with opportunity for Q&As. The dialogue will be centred around climbing but we welcome people from any sport."

Instagram post 2185652412207189592_589340319 Who'd be up for climbing here? 🙋‍♀️ Who'd be up for the 50km jungle trek to get there? 😮 Or climbing a new free route on an overhanging cliff twice the size of the Eiffel Tower, guarded by bird-eating spiders and venomous snakes? 😨
.
Well @leo_houlding @anna_taylor_98
@waldo_etherington and @wilstone8 are all in, and are already half-way through their month-long expedition attempt to reach the summit. It all sounds pretty epic.
