🕊Our final bird of the week - Kestrel!🕊

🦜Kestrels are most notable for their hovering ability and brown-red plumage. Adapted to a range of habitats across the UK, they are as commonly found on the moorlands as they are in urban areas.🦜

🪺Kestrels normally lay a clutch of eggs at the end of April or beginning of May, nesting in small crevices on cliffs. The number of eggs is normally down to the nutrition the female has eaten, and many years females are unable to lay.🪺

🐣Unusually for many birds of prey there is no aggression between fledglings and young chicks may fly, perch and roost together as they begin to explore further from the nest.🐤

Today the BMC have confirmed two sponsors as part of our new and wider commercial partner programme.

The announcement comes at a time when participation in hill walking continues to increase, and @gb_climbing preparation for Paris 2024 builds.

@cotswoldoutdoor, the national outdoor kit retailer which also runs Snow+Rock is confirmed as one of two top-tier ‘Premium Partners’ and ‘Official Outdoor Retailer’ of the BMC. The partnership builds on a relationship going back a number of years, including supporting #mendourmountains.

@lasportivauk, the Italian high performance footwear brand is confirmed as ‘Official Footwear Supplier’ for the BMC and GB Climbing, which encompasses all areas of La Sportiva activity – Mountain, Hike, Running and Climb.

Welcome to the BMC family, we look forward to working in collaboration over the next few years!

The outdoors should be for everyone, but not every The outdoors should be for everyone, but not everyone has equal access to it. Our recent survey highlights disparities in access to outdoor spaces and the urgent need to break down barriers. Women, low-income households, and underrepresented communities face the most challenges.

We’re taking action to address these disparities. Our new EDI strategy will help drive the systemic change needed to champion and support equality, diversity, and inclusivity in hill walking, climbing, and mountaineering. This includes outreach programs, support for underrepresented participants, and investment in local groups and organisations.

Watch and share this video to help raise awareness and champion an outdoors that’s a more accessible space, to be enjoyed by everyone.

As Mental Health Week begins, let's acknowledge the vital role of the great outdoors in promoting mental well-being.

The serene landscapes, awe-inspiring sunsets, and soothing sounds of nature have a profound impact on our mental health.

So, take a moment to disconnect from screens and connect with the beauty of nature. Your mind will thank you!

🦅Bird of the week - Fulmar🤮 🐦Often refer 🦅Bird of the week - Fulmar🤮

🐦Often referred to as a “self-policing” bird, Fulmars feature in many a horror story told by the unknowing climber.🫣

🦤This grey and white seabird is related to the Albatross, and is only found on shore during the nesting season. Often nesting on sea cliff ledges, they have a unique reflex to vomit a vile smelling oil over anyone found too close to their nest.🪺

🐓It is unnecessary for the BMC to place many climbing restrictions for Fulmar nests despite their rarity. Climbing too close will require a new outfit, harness and rack as well as showering multiple times.🤢
